ADDICTION RECOVERY

ASSISTING IN THE RECOVERY OF ADDICTIONS:

HOW LIFE COACHING CAN ASSIST IN THE RECOVERY PROCESS OF ALCOHOL\DRUG ADDICTION.

Without adequately preparing for the day-to-day challenges of life in recovery, recovering addicts may find themselves relapsing shortly after leaving treatment.

This where The Brown Horse Academy can can offer a life coach to support clients recovering from alcohol or drug addiction.. As a complement to continuing care and relapse prevention planning, a life coach provides guidance and support with real-world application. Whereas therapists teach addicts about the disease and address the emotional and psychological issues underlying their addiction, life coaches help them develop the practical tools that will improve their daily lives and help them move forward.

If they were incarcerated for drugs, rehab is generally not an option. Their body has probably already gone through detox just by being in an isolated area, so rehab won’t be much help.

What they do need is for someone to help them set goals and try to learn skills that will enable them to integrate back into society, this is the same with all addicts and Equine Assisted Evaluation (EAE) can assist in identifying these skills needed for the integration. This practical tool is a tool which can be used as a first step to evaluate how the client can move forward in their lives in that it can identify various needs and to assist in resolving these needs.

Life Coaching and EAE are therefore complementary because EAE, on its own, is only a first stage in the recovery process after which Life Coaching continues with other stages. The principal of BHA is to have a continuing process of stages of recovery commencing with EAE and then further stages through to a new life be it a job or an improved quality of life.
